Handicap Steps

Return to The Gallery

This was a project for a gentleman who had a stroke.  He went through months of in-facility physical therapy rehab and was looking forward to coming home!  One of his limitations was only being able to walk up steps 3-4 inches high.  None of his entryways even cam close to meeting this requirement.  His main source of entry was the carport.  As shown, the original steps here didn’t have any kind of a landing before crossing the threshold and entering the house.  I was able to create the spacious landing and extend the stairs into his carport that was well within his capabilities of climbing.  Sturdy hand rails were attached as well as non-skid tape on the treads for a safer entry way.
